Laparoscopic (Key-hole) Surgery

We now offer laparoscopic surgery. This is keyhole surgery which uses a camera
and specialised equipment to perform surgery on internal organs without having to make a large cut in the skin through skin and muscle.

This minimally invasive surgical technique has many uses. It used especially when performing neutering operations (spays) and for taking biopsy samples of internal organs.

ADVANTAGES OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY:

  • Small surgical incisions
  • Less handling of internal organs
  • Less post-surgical bruising
  • Strong evidence for much reduced postoperative pain
  • Less risk of infection
  • Quicker recovery from the operation

USES OF LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY:

Laparoscopy is particularly useful for

  • Bitch spays (neutering)
  • Biopsies of large internal organs, for example, the liver
  • Retrieval of retained testicles in males. These are testicle which have not dropped into the proper position in the scrotum and need to be removed to avoid future problems with cancer.

We are now taking bookings for laparoscopically neutering of female dogs and cats. If you are interested in laparoscopic surgery, please contact us on 01472 347054/362821/240422 to find out whether laparoscopic surgery is suitable for you and your pet.

We may recommend a consultation with a member of our team to discuss alternatives if we feel that laparoscopy may not be suitable for your pet.
